Henry Ford had to sell the use of the car, but today, Ford Motor no longer needs to sell the idea of the car, because everyone knows the idea, so the technology and features what has become important.
Car was invented, transporting yourself in your own vehicle, but today it is just a show-off, it doesn’t matter you own the car, but how many? Which make? Does matter, so if we are buying one budget car, people will do the negative evaluation of your status;
Today car is no more a luxury, irrespective to which car or how many cars you own, because of bad roads, narrow roads, bumpy roads, road repairs, road blocks, upcoming flyovers, monorails, Metro and the bumper to bumper traffic, in big International cities they can do 40 km per hour and in Indian Metro cities, you can hardly do 10 km per hour, so if you drive from Borivali to Nariman point it will take 2 hours plus.
Apart from cost of the car, you pay exorbitant price for Garages, it is difficult to sell the flat if you don’t have garage, you will miss to visit the good places if there are no parking place, you cannot drink and drive, so you miss a drink while going home, and the worst; when you go out for dinner with your family you have to choose either drink or car unless your wife can drive? You cannot use the mobile phones so talking & driving is also prohibited, you cannot smoke in the car because your wife hates smoking.
Mostly, we reach late in car because it all depends upon traffic and in city like Mumbai traffic is always bad, so you get upset and try to break signal and hidden traffic police will appear out of the blue and most of us don’t like to pay fine but happily we will bribe and get rid of him, a dent on a car or small scratch on your bonnet, a noise in your car makes you worry and the cooling of the a/c always makes you sweat.
Finally the date to pay your instalments, call centre girls are bugging on your mobile for payments, your wife is pregnant, meeting the deadlines in office and you are stuck in a traffic jam due to water logging at King Circle, indicator showing empty fuel tank, Credit Cards are overdrawn, limited cash balance and so on, but then too you are proud owning the car? But I am Proud Not Owning the Car…because I am at peace, I just say TAXI… ‘Technology should improve your life, not become your life.
